Guwahati Tawang Cycling Expedition

The bicycle route from Guwahati to Tawang is one of the most scenic routes in the Indian Himalayas. In this journey, you will ride a distance of appx 300 Kms in 7 days. The cycling ride expedition starts from Bhalukpong on the Assam-Arunachal border up to Tawang in western Arunachal Pradesh. 

The route takes you through the beautiful landscapes of the western regions of Arunachal Pradesh. In the first few days, the gradual elevation is achieved through lush green tropical and alpine forests along the Kameng River, a major tributary of the Brahmaputra. 

After crossing Dirang valley, Bomdila, and icy Sela Pass at 4200 meters, the route enters enter the Tawang region, home to nomadic Monpa tribes with their unique culture. From Tawang, one can also visit the Indo-China border at Bumla Pass (4600 meters), after crossing tens of alpine lakes. 

This route is also used by the Dalai Lama as an escape route from Tibet to India and is also the site of the 1962 Sino-Indian War. With a mixture of history, culture, and a landscape that varies from tropical forests to harsh alpine terrains, this is the perfect way to explore this western Arunachal region.

Itinerary

Day

1

Arrive Guwahati.
Guwahati

Guwahati is a city located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River in the northeastern state of Assam, India. This hill is known for sacred sites like Kamakhya Temple. On reaching Guwahati, you will be welcomed by our representative and taken to the hotel/guest house.

You can relax and after freshening up, there will be a short briefing session on the tour.

Post briefing, you can explore the city on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Drive to Bhalukpong. (245 KMS/ 7Hrs drive)
Bhalukpong

After breakfast, we will drive from Guwahati to Bhalukpong. Bhalukpong is the entry point of Arunachal Pradesh. In the evening, we will have a pre-expedition ride and acclimatization in and around the locality.

Cycle Ride to Jamiri (61 KMS/ 7-8 hrs)
Jamiri

The morning starts with a healthy breakfast, followed by our ride from Bhalukpong to Jamiri. The ride follows the lovely clear water Kameng River, lush green forests and views of the snow-covered Himalayan range.

Cycle Ride to Bomdila (52 KMS/ 6-7 hrs)
Bomdila

The next morning after breakfast when you leave for Bomdila, the route is a mixed one with a few sections of an ascending steep slopes. This route provides an exciting experience.

Cycle Ride to Sangti Valley (50 KMS/ 5-6 hrs)
Sangti Valley

A long downhill ride today from Bomdila while going down to the Sangti Valley stoping Enroute at few small shops. Sangti Valley is located nearly 15 km from Dirang.

Overnight stay at the Sangti village in a homestay/ camping.

Rest day at Sangti Valley.
Sangti Valley

The Sangti valley located about 15 kilometers from Dirang, is surronded with the towering hill ranges.

This valley is suitable for bird watchers and the weather here is pleasant during most of the year. Visit the local village during the day.

Return back to the accommodation after a full day of exploration for overnight stay

Cycle Ride to Senge (35 KMS/ 5-6 hrs)
Senge

After breakfast in the morning, we ride towards Senge town. The further stop next day is at Jung, about 66 km from Senge and there is no option to stay in between. The next day is a tough riding day compared to all days, so there is a need to prepare mentally and physically.

Cycle Ride over the Sela Pass to Jung (66 KMS/ 8-9hrs)

It would be early morning breakfast as we will have to go for a long and tough ride through the high motorable pass Sela Pass at 13,700 ft. After riding for about 16 km ahead of Sela Pass is Jaswanth Garh, a memorial of the brave soldier Veer Jaswant Singh, who single-handedly tried to hold the Chinese army for 72 hours during 1962 Indo-China war.

Cycle Ride to Tawang (30 KMS/ 4-5hrs)
Tawang

The next day we ride towards Tawang, our winning ride towards the final destination while stopping at the Nuranang Falls. Nuranang Falls also known as Jung Water Fall is 100 meters high, being one of the most spectacular waterfalls of Arunachal Pradesh, yet unknown to many travelers. Jung town is about 2 km on the road from Tawang

After a pleasant ride of 30 km, we will be stationed in Tawang.

Explore Tawang on your own
Tawang

Check out after breakfast in the morning and explore Tawang by yourself. Tawang in the northeast of India is a place where tourists experience the beautiful nature in the form of divinity. Tawang is home to some of the finest natural lakes, Tsongatser Lake is also famous for Bollywood movie shoot of film Koyla. Tawang has Asias second-largest monastery which is 400-year-old. Tawang is also home to the Monpa Tribe

Drive back to Bomdila

After having breakfast in the morning, we will return to Bomdila on the same route by vehicle.

After breakfast in the morning, you will walk Drive back to Guwahati via Khaltang.

The package price will be deducted as per the following conditions strictly. No refund will be entertained without receiving a cancellation request effective from the date of receipt of the letter. 

  • Notice less than 60-46 days:  25% cost will be deducted
  • Notice less than 45-31 days:  50% cost will be deducted
  • Notice less than  30 days:    No Refund

Note: No refund will be given to people who are unable to complete the trip or abandon it due to any reasons.

  • It will be deemed that the booking & payment policy is accepted by the clients while making the bookings with the first deposit amount. 
  • If the client is forced to cancel the booking prior to departure, the cancellation policy will be followed.
  • In case of any delay beyond our control, the client will have to bear extra cost for the extra days as per the option chosen on per day basis.
  • Please  note  and  be  well  informed  that  there  will  be  no  refund  of  money  after the package commences and if one cannot complete activity or gets sick enroute. 
  • The cost is for the entire package and there would be no refunds in case any part of the package is not availed.

We shall not be responsible for the delays or alterations in the program or expenses incurred due to conflict, international or internal flight delay or cancellations, strikes, sickness, weather, war, vehicle problems, political closures and disputes.
  2. The  booking  is  accepted  on  the  understanding  that  you  realize  the  potential  risks  and hazards that can be involved in holidays of this kind. The organisor along with our leaders/guides and anyone else working in association with us cannot be held responsible for any death, accident or mishap that may occur in connection with any part of, or services connected with the holiday. 
  3. Before the guests come on a holiday, they must be covered by insurance, which has to include the cost of helicopter rescue, evacuation and cost of repatriation if they become too ill to continue. It is recommended that the travel insurance should cover adventure activities undertaken. We can help you incase required
