Meghalaya Cycling Tour

Come Ride with us exploring the abode of clouds called Meghalaya crossing the evergreen Assam. One will ride and cycle in the striking cemented roads with the natural beauty of the gentle hills, rich meadows, and pine forest of Meghalaya. Our cycling ride covers noteworthy places like Shillong often called Scotland of the east, Cherrapunji - the wettest place in India, Umiam lake- a mesmerizing man-made reservoir, Mawlynnong - the cleanest village in the Khasi Hills district, Dawki just 2 km from the Bangladesh border, crystal clear Umgot River and much more. A trek to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge is also included in the tour.

Being on a bicycle is liberating you can go anywhere anytime, and it's free. The ride will give you small pleasures like waking up in the middle of a forest, crossing small eateries by the highway, enjoying the lush green countryside, spotting colorful frogs and chameleons, huge blue sky and vast bed of green landscapes,  tiny wooden houses,  tropical forest with palm-sized butterflies, massive spiders, and juicy pineapples.

By Air - The nearest airport in Meghalaya is located in Guwahati in the state of Assam (known as Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport), about 159 km away from Meghalaya. It is well connected to the international airports of major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Calcutta. You can take a taxi from Guwahati Airport to Meghalaya.

By Train - The nearest railway station in Meghalaya is located in the city of Guwahati in the state of Assam, about 180 km away from Meghalaya. Guwahati railway station is well connected by rail network to cities like Delhi, Bangalore, Amritsar, and Jammu Kashmir. You can take a taxi or bus From Guwahati railway station to Meghalaya.

By Road - If you want to reach Meghalaya by road then you can reach any city in India via road, Meghalaya is well connected to major cities by road. You can enjoy the beautiful views of nature while traveling by road.


Best time to visit Meghalaya

Meghalaya is a popular place for its springs, valleys, and tranquil environment, situated amidst the beautiful hills. The best time to visit Meghalaya is from October to April. During this season, the mountains, rivers, and lakes offer attractive views, which make Meghalaya even more beautiful.

Summer season - April to June 
Summer starts in April and lasts till June end. Meghalaya has a minimum temperature of 15 degrees celsius and a maximum of 28 degrees celsius during this season. If you want to spend some time in the summer season with your family in Meghalaya, then this period could be considered. Many regional festivals are also organized here during this season. 

Monsoon season - July to September 
The monsoon season starts from May and lasts till September, during this season the minimum temperature here is 14 degrees celsius and the maximum temperature is up to 30 degrees celsius. Due to excess rainfall in this season, the level of rivers rises and it is very beautiful and attractive to see waterfalls. Due to excess rains this season, there is a possibility of landslides

Autumn season - October to November 
Autumn begins in October and lasts until November. The minimum temperature in this season is 8 degrees celsius and the maximum temperature is up to 25 degrees celsius. The famous festival is celebrated in Shillong, Meghalaya during this season. Shillong is considered one of the best places in Meghalaya.

Winter season - December to March
The minimum temperature in winter is 4 degrees celsius and the maximum temperature is up to 20 degrees celsius. If you are planning to visit Meghalaya in the winter season then the best time to visit is during the months of December to March. The weather season allows visitors to participate in many things in Meghalaya.

Itinerary

Day

1

Arrive Guwahati
Guwahati

Guwahati, the largest city of Assam situated on the banks of Brahmaputra River. On arrival in Guwahati, you will be welcomed by our representative and would be escorted to the hotel /guest house. After freshening up, there will be a short briefing session on the tour and assemble our bike for the tour.

2

Guwahati to Nohsngithiang, Umbir. 86 km (8 - 9 hrs)
Umbir

After morning tea we will start cycling toward our next destination. On the first day 80% of our ride will be uphill ride with few short downhill stretch. We will have breakfast at Jiva Resort, Nongpoh on the way which is 40 km from the starting point. Evening bonfire at the camp site.

3

Umbir to Cherrapunji. 74 km (7 - 8 hrs)
Cherrapunji

After early morning tea we will cross the lake in a country boat and start cycling towards Cherrapunji. It will take around 6-7 hours to reach our destination. On arrival check in at homestay/guest house.

4

Double Decker Root Bridge.
Cherrapunji

After early morning breakfast, start your drive to the starting point(Tyrna Village) of your trek to Double Decker root bridge. You have to climb around 3000 steps to reach the root bridge. This natural bridge gets stronger day by day. You will return back to our homestay/guest house at Cherrapunji.

Cherrapunji to Mawlynnong. 81 km (6 - 7 hrs)
Mawlynnong

Mawlynnong is Asias cleanest village. You will spend the night in a homestay at the village.

Mawlynnong to Dawki 42 km (3 - 4 hrs)
Dawki

Dawki is 34 km from Mawlynnong and we ride little ahead of Dawki to reach our camping site along the bank of Umngot river. Evening bonfire at the camp site.


Day

7

Dawki to Shillong. 89 km (By vehicle)
Shillong

We will start ridding towards Shillong the capital of Meghalaya. Overnight at hotel/guest house at Shillong.

8

Shillong to Guwahati. 100 km (5 -6 hrs)
Guwahati

The last of our ride will be mostly downhill ride to Guwahati. Overnight at hotel/guest house.

Drop at the airport/railway station for onwards journey

Cancellation Policy
CANCELLATION POLICY

All notice of cancellation must be sent to our New Delhi office via email. Verbal cancellations will not be entertained. There is also no refund for services not utilized. There will be a cancellation fee as under:

  • Notice less than 45 days: 35% cost will be deducted
  • Notice less than 30 days: 50% cost will be deducted
  • Notice less than 15 days: No Refund

  • The digital copy of the Indemnity form duly filled, signed and emailed to the company along with the booking amount. 
  • It will be deemed that the booking & payment policy is accepted by the clients while making the bookings with the first deposit amount. 
  • If the client is forced to cancel the booking prior to departure, the cancellation policy will be followed.
  • In case of any delay beyond our control, the client will have to bear extra cost for the extra days as per the option chosen on per day basis.
  • Please  note  and  be  well  informed  that  there  will  be  no  refund  of  money  after the package commences and if one cannot complete activity or gets sick enroute. 
  • The cost is for the entire package and there would be no refunds in case any part of the package is not availed.

  1. It is in the nature of a holiday of this kind to be flexible. The day-to-day agenda and ultimate goal of the tour is taken as an aim and not as a contractual obligation. We shall not be responsible for the delays or alterations in the program or expenses incurred due to conflict, international or internal flight delay or cancellations, strikes, sickness, weather, war, vehicle problems, political closures and disputes.
  2. The  booking  is  accepted  on  the  understanding  that  you  realize  the  potential  risks  and hazards that can be involved in holidays of this kind. The organisor along with our leaders/guides and anyone else working in association with us cannot be held responsible for any death, accident or mishap that may occur in connection with any part of, or services connected with the holiday. 
  3. Before the guests come on a holiday, they must be covered by insurance, which has to include the cost of helicopter rescue, evacuation and cost of repatriation if they become too ill to continue. It is recommended that the travel insurance should cover adventure activities undertaken. We can help you incase required
  4. The Company would not be liable to pay any kind of compensation arising because of any mishap, sickness, accident etc.

  • Booking Amount:  25% of the package price (Non Refundable)
  • 1st Installment:    25% of the package price on confirmation of all services
  • 2nd Installment:    50% Balance 15 days prior to the departure date
