Tarsar Marsar (12,451 ft) is one the most beautiful lake treks in India. Tarsar & Marsar trek is a naturally endowed and adventurous trek offering many beautiful blue lakes in this Kashmir valley. During summers, the lakes are covered with snow, and one spends the night camping near these lakes. Whereas this is not the case on the Kashmir Great Lakes, where one does not get a chance to camp on the banks of the lakes.
This trek is made up of three lakes, which include Tarsar, Marsar and Sundarsar lakes. When you pass through these lakes one comes across large meadows that will leave you mesmerised. Apart from this, the dense paths are surrounded by poplar trees on the banks of the Lidder River. The journey of Tarsar Marsar Lakes Trek takes you through the heart of Kashmir, from the quaint village of Aru to Lidderwat. The beauty of this place is such that it compels you to stay for the whole week.

Tarsar Marsar Lake Trek is a moderate level trek. Some parts of it are rough, steep climbs, and ups and downs. However, this trek can be a bit difficult for beginners and one needs to prepare one?s fitness levels in advance before starting the trek.

To Visit Tarsar & Marsar Lakes Trek
When is the best time to go to Tarsar Marsar Trek, it is very important to know about the weather there before planning this trekking trip. The right season for Tarsar Marsar Lakes Trek is between May to September. The weather of Tarsar Marsar is clear in the season of May to June, all the landscapes are green, this is an ideal time. Apart from this, August and September are good months to visit also, although these months one can experience a little bit of rain showers. The Kashmir Valley receives less rainfall during the monsoon, however the weather still remains favourable for tourists.
Weather and Temperature
The temperature from July to August is around 15 to 18 degree Celsius. If there is a change in the sky, and there is a bit of a rainy season, then the temperature remains around 4 to 5 degree Celsius. At night the temperature drops to 1-3 degree Celsius. July to August is the most comfortable time for this trek. The day temperature hovers around 15 to 18 degrees when sunny. The temperature remains between 4 to 5 degrees during cloudy or rainy seasons. But at night the temperature drops to 1 to 3 degree Celsius. The weather becomes very cold in the month of September, these days the night temperature fluctuates around -3 to -5 degree Celsius.

By Air - The nearest airport to Aru, which is the starting point of this trek is Srinagar, with flights to Srinagar from all the major cities of India, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, and Kolkata etc. After coming to Srinagar, you can hire a taxi from the airport to Aru.
By Train - To go to Aru, which is the starting point of this trek by train route, you have to first reach Jammu Tawi by train. After this you can take a direct bus to Pahalgam and then go to Aru via cab. Aru is the base camp of Tarsar Lake trek.
