Tarsar Marsar (12,451 ft) is one the most beautiful lake treks in India. Tarsar & Marsar trek is a naturally endowed and adventurous trek offering many beautiful blue lakes in this Kashmir valley. During summers, the lakes are covered with snow, and one spends the night camping near these lakes. Whereas this is not the case on the Kashmir Great Lakes, where one does not get a chance to camp on the banks of the lakes. 

This trek is made up of three lakes, which include Tarsar, Marsar and Sundarsar lakes. When you pass through these lakes one comes across large meadows that will leave you mesmerised. Apart from this, the dense paths are surrounded by poplar trees on the banks of the Lidder River. The journey of Tarsar Marsar Lakes Trek takes you through the heart of Kashmir, from the quaint village of Aru to Lidderwat. The beauty of this place is such that it compels you to stay for the whole week.

Tarsar & Marsar Lakes Trek Difficulty Level

Tarsar Marsar Lake Trek is a moderate level trek. Some parts of it are rough, steep climbs, and ups and downs. However, this trek can be a bit difficult for beginners and one needs to prepare one?s fitness levels in advance before starting the trek.

Best Time To Visit Tarsar & Marsar Lakes Trek

When is the best time to go to Tarsar Marsar Trek, it is very important to know about the weather there before planning this trekking trip. The right season for Tarsar Marsar Lakes Trek is between May to September. The weather of Tarsar Marsar is clear in the season of May to June, all the landscapes are green, this is an ideal time. Apart from this, August and September are good months to visit also, although these months one can experience a little bit of rain showers. The Kashmir Valley receives less rainfall during the monsoon, however the weather still remains favourable for tourists.

Weather and Temperature
The temperature from July to August is around 15 to 18 degree Celsius. If there is a change in the sky, and there is a bit of a rainy season, then the temperature remains around 4 to 5 degree Celsius. At night the temperature drops to 1-3 degree Celsius. July to August is the most comfortable time for this trek. The day temperature hovers around 15 to 18 degrees when sunny. The temperature remains between 4 to 5 degrees during cloudy or rainy seasons. But at night the temperature drops to 1 to 3 degree Celsius. The weather becomes very cold in the month of September, these days the night temperature fluctuates around -3 to -5 degree Celsius.

How To Reach Tarsar Lake

If you want to go to Tarsar Lake by yourself, then how to go -
By Air - The nearest airport to Aru, which is the starting point of this trek  is Srinagar, with flights to Srinagar from all the major cities of India, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, and Kolkata etc. After coming to Srinagar, you can hire a taxi from the airport to Aru.

By Train - To go to Aru, which is the starting point of this trek by train route, you have to first reach Jammu Tawi by train. After this you can take a direct bus to Pahalgam and then go to Aru via cab. Aru is the base camp of Tarsar Lake trek.

1

Drive Srinagar Airport - Aru Base Camp (Altitude: 2,426m) 102Kms/ 3 Hours Drive
Aru Valley

? Arrived at Srinagar airport and transfer to Aru,which is the base camp for this trek.
? This journey will take you around 3 hours.After reaching the base camp, we set up the base camp next to the Lidder river. Evening is at leisure to explore the valley and get acclimatised

Trek Aru - Lidderwat (Altitude 2,780 M) (Trek 11km/ 5-6 Hours)
Lidderwat

? Enjoy the beautiful view of the sunrise valley in the morning. Get your backpack ready after breakfast.
? After preparing the backpack proceed to Lidderwat on your trekking expedition.During the trek, one can see many pastures and sheep and goats grazing in the grasslands. This hiking section makes you feel like one is in heaven, ensuring that there is no doubt that Kashmir is a paradise.Your climb during this journey is steep, but pleasant. You reach Lidderwat in about 5-6 hours by walking along the banks of the Lidder River. The trek gradient is easy to moderate levels, where initially the ascent is gradual for the first 30 minutes followed by a gentle undulating walk. The trail goes through clusters of fir trees and pops out at Dalla, near Gujjar huts which is a nice clearing after the forest. After Dalla, the trail is a gentle undulating walk through thick pine forest leading to Nandkei which finally ends at the lovely meadows of Lidderwat where one finds few Gujjar huts.

Lidderwat - Shekwas (Altitude 3,360 M) (Trek 6 km/ 5 Hrs)
Shekwas

? Have breakfast in the morning, capture some great pictures with your camera.
? Get your luggage ready, and head to Shekiwas with all the trekkers for your trekking journey. The trekking route from Lidderwat to Shekwas is rocky. On the way, you are sometimes surrounded by gusts of cold winds, although the whole road ahead is surrounded by pine trees.On the way you will find many Gujjar huts, you can enjoy tea here.The trek gradient is Moderate today where the route continuously ascends initially for the first 2 hours, crossing the river just before Homwas. The valley of Lidderwat starts to open up to wide expansive and panoramic grasslands. The meadows lead with towering mountains all around with snow patches on them. The trail ahead moves upwards past the Bakharwal shelters. The route continues to climb further for an hour or so passing through a cluster of Silver Birch (Bhoj patra) trees with the view opening up to a grand stunning landscape.It undulating meadows looks as if they are reaching out for the sky, with tall snow-patched cliffs in the background. The trail ends today at the camping grounds of Shekwas.
? You reach Shekivas after 5 hours of walking.

Trek Shekwas - Tarsar Lake (Altitude 3,790 M) (Trek 5 km/ 4 Hrs)

? Next morning after breakfast, proceed towards Tarsar Lake.
? The entire trail will lead you through a river stream through lush green meadows.You proceed along the edge of a hill, which offers you stunning views of the Tarsar Lake.You can get a clear view of the sky in the lake, it is full of very powerful beauty.The trek gradient today is moderate with continuous ascent. After walking for two hours, the trail gives you a glimpse of the Tarsar lake. It?s a sheer delight to set your foot on the banks of the Tarsar Lake, which offers plenty of lovely camping spots along the lake.

Tarsar Lake - Sundersar (Altitude 3,945 M) (Trek 5 kms/ 5 Hrs)
Sundersar

? Today will be the most challenging day of the entire trekking journey, because today you will cross the Tarsar Pass.After trekking for about 5 to 6 hours, you reach Sundarsar through dense forests.The trek gradient today is moderate to steep ascent. One has to climb in the beginning to the top of the pass, followed by a descent to Sundarsar Lake.
? Relax on the banks of Sundarsar Lake, this is the most beautiful place after Tarsar Lake, camp here.
? Spend the night camping on the banks of the Sundersar Lake.

6

Trek to Marsar Lake to Homwas (Altitude 4,024M Marsar Ridge to 3,505M/ Trek 9 km/ 7 hrs)
Homwas

? Morning post breakfast, we will climb up to Marsar from Sundarsar. After seeing Marsar Lake, descend back to Base Camp.The valley of Lake Marsar is filled with vibrant flowers, offering you many spectacular views. We climb to the top of the ridge for an amazing view of Marsar lake which is around 600-700 feet below. Marsar lake is a tucked away beauty, a bit inaccessible and mostly engulfed under clouds and mist. It is as large as the Tarsar lake.. We then head back the same way we came up to Marsar lake to get back to Sundarsar lake and after breakfast leave for Homwas to reach by late afternoon. Here you can listen to the folk songs of Kashmir in a small village of Gujjars.

Trek Homwas to Aru / Drive to Srinagar (Altitude 2,426 M) (Trek 13 km/ 6 Hrs)

? The trek gradient today is easy, gradually descending the trail all the way to Aru. AS we continue to descend down to Lidderwat, it is a 10 km walk to Aru, where we get to see the shrinking Kolahoi glacier, the pine forests of the Lidderwat valley

Yes, Tarsar Mercer Trek is better for beginners. Because there is some hard climbing in this trek, but if you prepare yourself a few days before the trek, then you will not have any problem. The alpine meadows and beautiful blue lakes make the trekking trip very attractive.

The package price will be deducted as per the following conditions strictly. No refund will be entertained without receiving a cancellation request effective from the date of receipt of the letter. 

Notice less than 60-46 days:  25% cost will be deducted
Notice less than 45-31 days:  50% cost will be deducted
Notice less than  30 days:    No Refund

Note: No refund will be given to people who are unable to complete the trip or abandon it due to any reasons.

  • The digital copy of the Indemnity form duly filled, signed and emailed to the company along with the booking amount. 
  • It will be deemed that the booking & payment policy is accepted by the clients while making bookings with the first deposit amount. 
  • If the client is forced to cancel the booking prior to departure, the cancellation policy will be followed.
  • In case of any delay beyond our control, the client will have to bear extra cost for the extra days as per the option is chosen on per day basis.
  • Please note and be well informed that there will be no refund of money after the package commences and if one cannot complete the activity or gets sick enroute. 
  • The cost is for the entire package and there would be no refunds in case any part of the package is not availed.

We shall not be responsible for the delays or alterations in the program or expenses incurred due to conflict, international or internal flight delay or cancellations, strikes, sickness, weather, war, vehicle problems, political closures, and disputes.
  2. The booking is accepted on the understanding that you realize the potential risks and hazards that can be involved in the holidays of this kind. The organizer along with our leaders/guides and anyone else working in association with us cannot be held responsible for any death, accident or mishap that may occur in connection with any part of, or services connected with the holiday.

Before the guests come on a holiday, they must be covered by insurance, which has to include the cost of helicopter rescue, evacuation and cost of repatriation if they become too ill to continue. It is recommended that travel insurance should cover adventure activities undertaken. We can help you in case required
