Overview

Navratri Festival in Gujarat

The festival of Navratri is celebrated with great pomp in Gujarat. If you have not yet seen the Navratri festival of Gujarat, then you must experience it once. Apart from this, if you live abroad and are planning to visit India, then you should come to India during the festival of Navratri. So that you can come to Gujarat, India, and enjoy the Hindu festival Navratri.

Navratri is a Hindu festival, which means 'nine nights'. This festival is celebrated with great pomp in many states of India. But Gujarat is the only state in India that celebrates a nine-night dance festival, which may be the longest day-long festival in the world. During Navratri in Gujarat, people in villages and cities gather in open spaces to celebrate the feminine deity called Shakti.

The festival also includes a dance known as Raas Garba, which is performed using small wooden sticks. (Sometimes it also includes sticks,) comes from the Gopa culture of Saurashtra and Kutch, worshiping Lord Krishna rather than goddess worship. During Raas Garba music, stories of the relationship and feelings between Lord Shri Krishna and the Gopis are also included in it.

The festival begins on the first day of the Hindu month Ashwin, for which a small goddess temple is built in each community by the Garba Mandal Centre. The temple consists of a Garbo, an earthen pot in which a betel nut, a coconut and a silver coin are kept. Is. Every night people from villages and cities gather to worship one of the nine forms of the goddess.

The nine nights of Navratri are divided into three parts. The first one is for Durga, Goddess Durga had destroyed the evil power represented by the demon Mahishasura, also it destroyed the impurities of human beings. The second is for Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity.

The third is for Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge and arts. This is the season to celebrate the monsoon harvest and fertility, represented by mounds of fresh soil in which grains are sown. After the puja the music starts, it is very unmistakable for those who know the genre.

People start dancing in a circle and continue roaming till late night. It is not uncommon to see dancers with swords or burning flames. After nine days comes the tenth day, on this day Dussehra is celebrated, which is also known as Vijayadashami in South India.

It is celebrated by performing puja to bless one's vehicle. Apart from this, it is also a day to buy new vehicles. Apart from this, Vijayadashami is also celebrated by eating a fried crispy salty snack, Jalebi, and a sweet sticky snack. Leaving aside religion and tradition, a Garba mandal can attain spiritual power.

Women give up indulgent foods during Navratri, which can be quite a purifying experience if done right. This is also the right time for housewives to step out of the house. During the music, many songs start slowly and start getting faster as they sing.

When you come to visit Gujarat during Navratri, imagine a circle, or concentric circles, revolving around the central representation of life, a universal creative force. A circle of energetic potential has been created, in which the Mother Goddess has appeared.

When Does Navratri Start
The festival of Navratri is celebrated on the first day of the bright fortnight of the Hindu month of Ashwin, which is in September/October as per the Gregorian calendar dates. Dussehra/Vijayadashami is the tenth day of Ashwin.

This Garba is performed at night in the villages and localities of Gujarat. Vadodara, the capital of Gujarat, is most sought after during Navratri. Apart from this, major festivals are also celebrated in Chamunda Mata Temple, Ashapura Mata-No-Madh, Khodiyar Temple.
