The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is considered to be one of the most scenic treks in the top treks in India. It is the most popular trek in Kashmir. It recognizes the mythological status of Kashmir as a paradise on earth and the starting point is located at a distance of 75 km from Srinagar. 

You can make a prologue by hearing the name of Kashmir Great Lakes as it is a wonderful place and all Himalayan trekkers will experience the natural beauty and adventure here.

The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek, the most charming trek in the Sindh Valley of Kashmir Himalayas spans over a week and covers a distance of 65 km is a trekker's delight offering trekkers a chance to visit more than 8 Alpine lakes nestled deep in the Kashmir Himalayas. 

Cradled among lofty and rugged mountains, a visit to these lakes will rejuvenate your senses and you will always be wishing to visit them again and again.

The trek provides a thrill-filled experience and the natural beauty and tinkling silence of Kashmir leaves you spellbound. Apart from the lakes, even the barren milky snow-capped mountains stand with might and pride. 

The duration of the trek counts to about 7 days, this trek has often been classified as moderate in relation to challenges to trekking and is surrounded by a mountain of the height of appx 18000 feet.

Best Time to Visit Kashmir Great Lakes Trek

To enjoy the picturesque beauty of the Kashmir Valley, the best time to trek the Kashmir Great Lakes is by July and August. In this season you will have a beautiful view of the lush green valleys and grasslands adorned with blooming flower colors. During this time, the weather here is also very pleasant. However, the trek can be done till October end also.


How To Reach Great Lakes Trek in Kashmir

By Air - Srinagar Airport is well connected to major cities of India. There are frequent flights from cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, and Kolkata. The airport of Srinagar is located about 70 km away from Sonamarg.

By Road - Sonamarg National Highway 1D can be reached through any other state of India. Sonamarg is about 87 km from the Srinagar bus stand. Sufficient public buses and taxis are available from the Srinagar Bus to stand to Sonamarg.

By Rail -The Jammu Tawi Railway station is the most convenient stop, from where frequent buses and cabs are available for Sonamarg.

1

Arrive Srinagar and Drive to Shitkadi Base Camp( 3 hrs Drive)
Shitkadi

Arrive at Srinagar and drive to the base camp at Shitkad Base Camp at the road headi. After reaching Shitkadi, a welcome drink and snacks will be served. Overnight stay in Camp at Shitkadi.

Trek to Nichani (10 Kms / 7 Hrs Approx)
Nichnai Meadow

Your trekking journey will start from today, after breakfast start the trek to Nichani. This trek is around 10Kms. Which may take 6 to 7 hours to complete.

Trek to Vishansar Lake (Over Nichnai Pass 4100M) (8 Kms / 6 Hrs)
Vishansar Lake

After breakfast in the morning, trek to Vishansar Lake via Nichnai Pass. This trek of a distance of approx 8 Kms from Nichnai to Vishansar Lake takes about 6-7Hrs. Vishansar Lake is an High altitude oligotrophic lake, Which is situated at an altitude of about 3710 metres above sea level. This lake is home to many types of fishes and Creatures, It holds great importance for Kashmiri Pandits. Its water freezes during the winter season and during the summer season around the lake is green lush meadows where local shepherds graze their flocks of sheep and goat. The Lake with its scenic beauty, snow-covered mountains, glaciers, meadows, and alpine flowers is an attraction for the trekkers in the Kashmir Valley.

Trek to Gadsar Lake (Over Gadsar Pass 4200M) (8 Kms / 6Hrs)
Mengan Doobta Pani

This trek goes to Gadsar Lake from Vishansar Lake via Kishensar Lake, Gadsar Pass, and finally to Gasar Lake, which is approx 8 Kms from Vishansar Lake. It takes about 6-7 hours to cover this distance.
Gadsar Lake: It is also called the valley of flowers. which is located at Altitude 3600 M in Ganderbal District of Kashmir Valley. Maximum length of this lake is 0.85 Kms and maximum width of 0.76 kms.

Trek to Mengan Dob Past Satsar Lakes(12 Kms / 8-9 Hrs)

Today?s trail starts on level ground descending down slowly to the river bed for about a couple of hours. We will cross the glacier over the river near the army camp and then start ascending steeply for the next couple of hours. As the trail turns west in the next valley, we cross some very windy open grasslands leading to the Satsar Lakes. Once we cross the Satsar lakes, we camp this evening at Mengan Dob. The trail becomes rocky as we cross the 3 Satsar Lakes. It?s a long walk today

Trek to Gangabal Lake ( 9 Kms/ 5 Hrs.)
Gangabal Lake

Early morning after breakfast you will start the trek to Gangabal Lake. This trek passes from Mengan Doobta over the very rocky Zachibal Pass, with great views of Mount Harmukh and Gangabal Lake. Harmukh is the 3rd highest peak of the Kashmir Valley. Harmukh mountain is located at an elevation of 5,142 metres in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. Harmukh is part of the Himalaya Range which is located between Nallah Sindh in the south side and Kishanganga River in the north side, rising above Gangabal Lake in the vicinity of Kashmir valley. The best part of this pass and the treat to the eyes is the first look of the view you get of twin lakes of Gangabal Lake ? Nundkol and Gangabal Lakes.The trail ascends steeply towards Zachibal Pass and the route is very tricky in many parts. One really needs to be careful both while ascending and then descending down to Gangabal Lake

Trek to Naranag ( 13 Kms / 7 Hrs )
Naranag

Today will be the last day of the trek. Post breakfast in the morning, you will start the trek to Narang. This trek passes through meadows and forests. As the trek descends down, the route becomes very steep and rocky throughout until one reaches naranag. Drop at Srinagar Airport.
Naranag is a tourist village which is an ancient Hindu pilgrimage site located in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated about 8 km upstream from Kangan. Naranag is a beautiful village nestled amidst beautiful meadows, lakes and mountains.

The package price will be deducted as per the following conditions strictly. No refund will be entertained without receiving a cancellation request effective from the date of receipt of the letter. 

Notice less than 60-46 days:  25% cost will be deducted
Notice less than 45-31 days:  50% cost will be deducted
Notice less than  30 days:    No Refund

Note: No refund will be given to people who are unable to complete the trip or abandon it due to any reasons.

  • The digital copy of the Indemnity form duly filled, signed and emailed to the company along with the booking amount. 
  • It will be deemed that the booking & payment policy is accepted by the clients while making bookings with the first deposit amount. 
  • If the client is forced to cancel the booking prior to departure, the cancellation policy will be followed.
  • In case of any delay beyond our control, the client will have to bear extra costs for the extra days as per the option is chosen on a per daily basis.
  • Please note and be well informed that there will be no refund of money after the package commences and if one cannot complete the activity or gets sick en route. 
  • The cost is for the entire package and there would be no refunds in case any part of the package is not availed.

We shall not be responsible for the delays or alterations in the program or expenses incurred due to conflict, international or internal flight delay or cancellations, strikes, sickness, weather, war, vehicle problems, political closures, and disputes.
  2. The booking is accepted on the understanding that you realize the potential risks and hazards that can be involved in the holidays of this kind. The organizer along with our leaders/guides and anyone else working in association with us cannot be held responsible for any death, accident or mishap that may occur in connection with any part of, or services connected with the holiday. 
  3. Before the guests come on a holiday, they must be covered by insurance, which has to include the cost of helicopter rescue, evacuation and cost of repatriation if they become too ill to continue. It is recommended that travel insurance should cover adventure activities undertaken. We can help you in case required
