Overview

About Leh Ladakh Kargil Tour Package

Ladakh is a land abounding in awesome physical features set in an enormous and spectacular environment. Bounded by two of the world's mightiest mountain ranges the Karakoram in the north and the Great Himalaya in the south it is traversed by two other parallel chains the Ladakh Range and the Zanskar Range.

Ladakh lies at altitudes ranging from about 9,000 ft (2,750 m) at Kargil to 25,170 ft (7,672m) at Saser Kangri in the Karakoram Range. Surprisingly though the thin air makes the heat of the sun even more intense than at lower altitudes. It is said that only in Ladakh can a man sitting in the sun with his feet in the shade suffer from sunstroke and frostbite at the same time.

Best Season to Visit Leh Ladakh Kargil

If you are planning to go to Leh Ladakh, then it is very important to know the right time to visit Ladakh. Whether you are a biker, trekker, tourist, or if you are going just for a holiday in Ladakh with your family, you need to know about it before going.

However,  we recommend you visit Ladakh all 12 months of the year and each different month will offer a unique experience. In which you can plan Ladakh anytime in 12 months. Here is our recommendation to visit Ladakh and the details of visiting Ladakh during 12 months are as follows:-

May to September (Summer) -  Ladakh, known for supernatural landscapes, one gets to see the most in summer as most of the hotels are open then. Hotels are open in Pangong, Nubra, and Tso Moriri also. These months are the most popular as there are a lot of domestic tourists coming into Ladakh, who come to visit here from different parts of the country.

Ladakh is very famous all over the world also with foreigners thronging the place for adventures. The temperature remains between 5? Celsius to 25? Celsius. From June to September, Ladakh can be accessed via road by bike or car from both Manali and Srinagar. The months from mid-April to June are the peak season for Ladakh tourism.

Zojila Pass coming in from Srinagar usually opens by mid-April nowadays. The Rohtang Pass opens from May to the end of September. The temperature ranges from 5? Celsius to 15? Celsius. These months are the best time to drive to Ladakh. The weather is clear these days.

Autumn, Winters & Spring - All hotels close in Pangong and Nubra valley but there are few centrally heated hotels open in Leh now. You get to see different colors of the weather here these months as well as you can enjoy secluded journeys with nature. So based in Leh, one can explore the region and there is indeed lots to offer.

On the brighter side, when people come in the summer months, everyone skips the attractions of Leh town and around heading out to Nubra, Pangong & Tsomoriri. So this is the perfect time to explore this side of Ladakh and indeed there are many activities to do.

October, November & March -  It becomes very calm post the hectic tourist season. With the arrival of October, cold starts to set in Ladakh. Also, in some high altitude places, the temperature drops below zero. The day temperatures hover around 10? Celsius and nights are sub zero?s

December to February -  Most passes close due to snowfall hence making Leh town inaccessible. The only way to arrive in Leh is to fly. India and other carriers fly to Leh throughout the year. Pangong Tso lake freezes with ice sheets. These months you can also do a snow leopard sighting expedition.

Temperatures hover between -15? C and 10? C during day and night. It?s a great time to come to Leh when everything is covered in white snow. Ice climbing and ice skating are possible to experience in these months.

This region had the influence of Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism because it falls on the route to Turkestan of China but its isolation helped the village and gompas to keep their cultural traditions safe from the outer influences.

The Alchi village is famous for the existence of one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh known as Alchi Monastery, which is Ladakh?s most valuable heritage. Alchi monastery is a Buddhist worshipping place and study center and is managed by the monks of Likir. The monastery was built, according to local tradition, by the great translator Guru Rinchen Zangpo between 958AD and 1055AD. The building is said to have been built during the 11th century and the architecture of the place is also excellent.

Today we travel via changla. En-route visit Hemis Monastery, thiksey Monastery and then to SheyPalace. Shey monastery and palace is located 15 kilometers from Leh town on the Leh - Manali road. Shey palace and the monastery were built in the 16th Century AD. The monastery enshrines the Du-Khang with an almost 10-meter high copper statue of Lord Buddha.
King Deldan Namgyal built the Shey palace and Shey Palace boasts of the largest victory stupa in Leh, the top of which is made of pure gold. The Shey Palace was the abode of the royal family till 1834 AD when they moved to the Stok Palace. The Shey Palace has been taken over by ASI for conservation

Thiksey monastery, which is one of the most vibrant and active monasteries in the region. It dates back to the 16th century and is part of the Gelug-pa Sect. It is headed by successive reincarnations of the Khanpo Rimpoche. The monastery is 12 storied and painted in deep shades of red, ochre and white. It has evolved around a central courtyard with buildings surrounding it from three sides. At one extreme lies the main dukhang, which houses numerous racks containing religious texts. Behind the main altar lies a small chamber that contains images of revered deities.

Continue your drive on a well mettled broad road traveling upstream along the Indus River to HEMIS GOMPA, crossing over the Indus at the village of Karu. The most famous of Ladakhs monasteries, Hemis or Changchub Samstanling(The love palace of the compassionate person), dates back to the 17th century and were built over a period of 40 years (1602 - 1642 A.D.). Today Hemis is well known for its festival or Hemis Tsechu commemorating the birthday of Guru Padmasambhava.

In the year of the Monkey (every 12 years) a giant thangka depicting Guru Padmasambhava is inferred from the terrace draping the five-story facade. Delicately wrought in pearls and appliqu?, it is one of the most famous art treasures of Ladakh. The central courtyard forms the focus for the masked dances held every year in summer. In the dukhang, remnants of the original 17th-century murals can be seen. Later return back to Leh
