Greenland Iceberg Tour Package

A truly breathtaking experience begins here!
Our Greenland photo tours are carefully designed by our local Inuit guides and our professional photographer. With our passion and knowledge about Greenland, we will bring you the most authentic experiences. Our teammates will share with you all we know about Greenland!

We have been running legendary Greenland photo tours for years, visiting the vast Arctic ice sheet and places with magnificent landscapes, enormous icebergs, glistening glaciers, majestic peaks, remote settlements, and amazing Arctic fauna - whales, seals, Arctic hares, musk oxen, and polar bears - as well as the most spectacular natural wonder: the Northern Lights.

We specialize in small group photography with the best guest-to-photographer ratio to ensure the best experiences for our guests.

Our trips are aimed at everyone with a passion for exploring Greenland with like-minded individuals on a comfortable boat cruise.

About East Greenland
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sail in the magnificent Scoresby Sund, the largest fjord and the most remote place on Earth. Scoresby Sund is surrounded by natural wonders - glaciers, icebergs and ice crusts. The picturesque sceneries are unparalleled yet untouched.

Scoresby Sund's spectacular landscapes, with Iceberg-filled Red Island, mountainous Ofjord, overlooking amazing archipelagos near Bear Island, and wildlife-rich Harefjord, will leave everyone speechless. Join us on the 8-day adventurous photo expedition to the rugged Scoresby Sund in East Greenland, enjoying the otherworldly scenery that you have never witnessed before.

As we sail through the unspoiled Arctic, we can see countless icebergs, towering cliffs, and spectacular glaciers in the fjords. We also come across some of Greenland's iconic wildlife in its natural habitat. Reindeers, snow hares, and musk-ox are everywhere. We can also spot many species of birds.

With some luck, polar bears can be spotted occasionally. Arctic flora is everywhere in the summer season. Traveling with a small group of merely 12 passengers will enable us to be more flexible and with more ashore time.

Our captain and expedition leader has a lot of experience in the surrounding areas. He will be guiding us for hiking in the breathtaking Arctic and navigating our vessels in the mighty fjords. You will never forget those Arctic wonders.

This tour is suitable for everyone. No photography experiences are required. Our photographer will be your lecturer in the field to make sure you can shoot the best photos of the kind. And one thing is for sure, we?ll take you to the best locations and help you to create a catalog of inspiring photographs you'll be proud of.

So, what are you waiting for?

Itinerary

Day

1

Fly Reykjav?k to Constable Point, Ittoqqortoormiit
Ittoqqortoormiit

Fly from Reykjav?k to Constable Point in Northeast Greenland. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the cruise that will be our home for the next 7 nights. Our guide will organize an information meeting for the journey and will explain all the safety rules. We will set off our Arctic exploration.

Our first stop will be Ittoqqortoormiit, one of the remotest human settlements in the world. We will stroll around the little village, experiencing the tranquillity associated with its remoteness. There are plenty of shooting opportunities here, from the local people to the colorful houses and the breathtaking landscape around.

Ittoqqortoormiit was founded in 1925 by the people migrating from Ammassalik island and a few families from West Greenland. It is the northernmost settlement of East Greenland with only 360 inhabitants. The people still live in a traditional way mostly by subsistence hunting of seals, narwhals, musk-ox and polar bears.

Day

2

Iceberg Places
Hekla Havn

Today, we will set off our journey to the world?s largest fjord system ? Scoresby Sund. We will witness a changing landscape from arched mountains of ice and floating icebergs. These sights, combined with the mystical light of the midnight sun, makes a dramatic setting for films.

We continue to sail west and arrive at Vikingebugt. Vikingebugt is famous for its impressive basalt columns stacked along the shoreline. We will organise a zodiac cruise to the foot of these vertiginous cliffs. Not far from Vikingebugt lies Denmark.

We will anchor at Hekla Havn, the site of an old Inuit settlement and winter camp of the first scientific expedition to Scoresby Sund a hundred years ago. We will have an evening walk exploring Hekla Havn and the surrounding areas.

Day

3

Rodefjord
Rodefjord

Today, the tour will be characterized by the imposing basalt mountains and steep cliffs on either side of the Fohnfjord. The mountains of Grassland and the 2,000-metre-high cliffs of Milne Land dominate the area. Later on, we will pass through Harefjord, an area with amazing photographic sights all around, before sailing further through Rodefjord. We'll encounter more iceberg formations when we are close to Rodefjord, which offers plenty of opportunities to practise your ice-shooting skills. We will stay here for two nights, ensuring you have enough time to shoot the most impressive Arctic landscapes, ice-filled waterways and rugged rock formations.

Day

4

Harefjord
Harefjord

We will explore Harefjord, wandering its shorelines in search of wildlife and beautiful landscapes. We have plenty to choose from for shooting - dramatic mountain ridges and glacial outlets. With some luck, we may come across Arctic foxes, Arctic hares, and eagles. To end a memorable day, the group will enjoy a cosy bonfire and delicious barbeque with our fresh catches.

Day

5

Majestic Fjord and Bear Islands
Ofjord

Today, we sail towards Ofjord, and it will be an awe-inspiring day of our Arctic photography. Jagged and mountainous peaks rising from the water can be seen in Ofjord. We will pass through a narrow fjord with granite cliffs towering over 200 meters above us. It?s a magnificent spectacle that you will never forget.

Day

Majestic Fjord and Bear Islands

Additional Info

Sector Note
Kisaq Is Greenland's Iconic Expedition Vessel
Kisaq was originally built as a passenger ferry that was built to operate year round in the Greenland waters. One of Greenland’s most iconic expedition vessels, Ksiaq has undergone a major refurbishment to a comfortable liveaboard vessel that takes photographers and tourists to feel this majestic country!

Kisaq is skippered by local captain Taatsi who has decades of experiences navigating in Greenland waters, and plenty of stories to tell about his homeland.

The vessel is extremely well maintained, with Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) certificated standards of safety and seaworthiness.

We love Kisaq as she is a very robust and capable vessel. From a guest experience, she is warm and comfortable. and whilst not luxurious. Kaisq offers an authentic experience in comparison to large cruise ships. It has 6 twin cabins with comfortable bunk beds, shared facilities, a warm saloon and large decks. She is also equipped with three Zodiacs for shore landings.

Fully Furnished and Comfortable Expedition Ship For Up To 12 Guests
Vessel designed to sail among icebergs. High level of comfort can live up to 12 guests in 6 refurbished cabins. Spacious dining area and common area and bar. Experienced staff – including cook

Small Expedition Ship Perfect For Photography Groups
Most expedition cruise ships are loaded with 100 passengers or more. For us, we believe smaller is better, especially for photography. When visiting small Greenlandic communities, you will have better experience in a small group than a large group. Our ship can go to remote and least-visited places that many large cruise ships can’t.

Expedition Leader and Professional Photo Guide
Most expedition cruise ships are loaded with 100 passengers or more. For us, we believe smaller is better, especially for photography. When visiting small Greenlandic communities, you will have better experience in a small group than a large group. Our ship can go to remote and least-visited places that many large cruise ships can’t. On this tour, we will be accompanied by an expedition leader and a photography guide who will share their knowledge to our guests throughout the trip.

Zodiac landing craft for shore landings
Shore landings are the essence of every expedition in the remote places of Greenland, and your guides will take you exploring ashore. The vessel is equipped with a zodiac which is specially designed for hostile Arctic environments. It also offers the perfect opportunity for us to get closer to icebergs, glaciers, and wildlife.

Focus On Local Employment and Environmental Protection
We focus on sustainable tourism by working closely with the local community to boost the local economy, by employing Greenlandic captains and using Greenlandic boats. We also try to minimize the impact of our trips to the environment and the local cultures.

Why a mandatory flight package?
Northeast Greenland is considered one of the remotest places in the world. To get here with a ship from Iceland takes at least three or four sea days on the Denmark strait, a passage that can be quite rough for a small ship like M/V Kisaq. To be able to offer you a comfortable experience with a focus on Greenland’s spectacular nature, we have therefore chosen to fly our customers from Reykjavik (Iceland) to Greenland

Do I need cash and various currencies?
We kindly ask you to pay your consumption of alcoholic beverages onboard on the last day in cash in USD or EUR. We do not accept credit cards.

In Greenland, credit cards are generally accepted in shops, supermarkets, gift shops, hotels, restaurants, and taxis. If you pay cash in shops, only Danish Kroner (DKK) is accepted.

Disclaimer
We highly recommend that you purchase travel and medical insurance in your home country. Your domestic medical insurance and private health scheme do not cover your overseas trip.

Boat Expedition Perfect for Photography Groups
The average expedition cruise boat currently carries 100 passengers or more, but we believe that smaller is better, especially for photography. When visiting small Greenlandic communities, you will get a far better experience in a small group than in a large one. Our boat can access places that many large cruise ships cannot reach, and it is also easier to spot extraordinary scenery.

Zodiac for Shore Landings
Shore landings are the essence of every expedition in remote areas of Greenland, and your guides will offer you plenty of opportunities to explore ashore. The vessel is equipped with a zodiac which is specially designed for harsh Arctic environments. It also offers the perfect opportunity for us to get closer to icebergs, glaciers and wildlife.

Focus on Local Employment, Environmental Protection and Sustainable Tourism
We focus on sustainable tourism by working closely with the local community to boost the local economy, by employing Greenlandic captains and using Greenlandic boats. We also strive to minimize the impact of our trips on the environment and the local cultures.
