In the winter season, the deities from all the temples go to their winter abode. Mukhba for Gangotri and Kharsali for Yamunotri, Ukhimath for Kedarnath, and Joshimath for Badrinath. The doors of these winter sounds are open throughout the year, it can be visited according to convenience.
The temple kapat closes by October hence the yatra does not take place in winter. The winter season lasts till the month of March. Darshan is closed after Diwali due to heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures in this season..
