Places to Visit in Char Dham

Where prayers are offered in the form of twinkling lights on holy rivers, where the deities reside in the mountains, this is the Chardham - millions of worshipers come here every year. One who bravely tackles the steep routes, be it the Badrinath temple in all its glory on the snow-capped Nikantha or the Kedarnath temple amidst the snow-capped surroundings. The Char Dham Yatra revolves around the towns and temples like Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Apart from this, you can also visit Haridwar and Rishikesh.


Badrinath 
Lord Vishnu is worshiped inside the Badrinath temple. When you ring the bell as soon as you enter the temple, it resonates in your soul. Badrinath is one of the most popular holy places situated amidst the hills. Darshan takes place in this holy temple from 4 am to 10 pm. Badrinath is the source of the holy river Alaknanda. This Bhagirath originates from the melt water of Kharak glaciers. Alaknanda is one of the major rivers forming the Ganges River. The second one is Bhagirathi.


Kedarnath
Kedarnath is one of the major Chardham pilgrimage sites in India, located in the foothills of the Himalayas. Kedarnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva situated amidst snow-capped mountains. Devotees have to undertake an adventurous journey to reach the temple. The lush green meadows and lush forests located in the lower ranges of the Himalayas only add to its charm. The trek to Kedarnath is of 14 kms, which starts from Gauri Kund, this walking tour provides breathtaking views at every turn.


Yamunotri
Situated on the banks of river Yamuna, Yamanotri temple is one of the Chardham. This temple is least seen as compared to other Dhams. You can see many hot springs in Yamunotri. Also you will see other pilgrims cooking potatoes and steamed rice which are given in religious ceremonies or chosen to help them carry out their duties. The journey to Yamanotri starts from the village of Janki Chatti. If you have any difficulty walking, you can ride a pony to the top.


Gangotri
Gangotri Dham is situated at an altitude of about 3,100 meters on the Himalayan ranges in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. It makes a very special place in the hearts of the people of Hindu religion. Gangotri is the source of the holy river Bhagirathi which forms into River Ganges at Devprayag. River Bhagirathi originates from the Gomukh glacier, which is located at a distance of about 18 km from the city of Gangotri. From mythology to the present day, the river Ganges has always been a source of purity for mankind.

Summer & Monsoon Season
After the severe winter, the season of spring and summer begins in the mountains. These days the weather is very clear, in which the valleys of flowers are in full bloom with many great varieties. The best time to visit Kedarnath and Badrinath temples is between April to October. Gangotri and Yamanotri are at a slightly higher altitude, so the summer season comes a little late. 

If you are also covering Gangotri and Yamanotri in this season, then definitely carry warm clothes with you. Because it is more cold here in the evening. Problems like headache, fever may have to be faced due to cold.The monsoon season reaches Chardham by the end of June, and continues till the month of September. It rains heavily during the monsoon season, so landslides and floods due to the spate of rivers are very common here, it is not advisable to visit any Dham these days by road.


About Chardham Yatra Helicopter

Generally AS350 B3 single engine helicopters are operated for Char Dham Yatra. This helicopter is popular for high altitude performance. A total of 6 passengers can sit in this helicopter, the maximum permissible weight is 450 kg.

Baggage Limitation - Only one handbag with a maximum weight of 5 kg per passenger can be carried during the journey. Your journey starts from these helipads - Sersi Helipad, Guptkashi Helipad, Phata Helipad


Opening and Closing Dates of Chardham Yatra

Whenever the Chardham gates are opened, the Uttarakhand government announces the opening and closing dates of the Chardham circuit, after which the Chardham package booking process begins. In the winter season, the deities from all the temples go to their winter abode. Mukhba for Gangotri and Kharsali for Yamunotri, Ukhimath for Kedarnath, Joshimath for Badrinath. The doors of these winter sounds are open throughout the year, it can be visited according to the convenience. 

The temple kapat closes by October hence the yatra does not take place in winters. The winter season lasts till the month of March. Darshan is closed after Diwali due to heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperature in this season.. Before embarking on this arduous journey, it is advisable to know about the best times to visit Chardham. For a better and comfortable journey, you can opt for a helicopter.


How to Reach Dehradun

Dehradun is a city located in the Garhwal region in the state of Uttarakhand, India, which is also the capital of Uttarakhand. The cool climate, picturesque landscape and famous educational institutions make this city even more beautiful. There are also some popular tourist attractions here like Robber's Cave, Tapkeshwar Temple, Sahastradhara, Malsi Deer Park, Paltan Bazaar and Bhatta Falls. Dehradun is well connected to major cities of India by air, road and rail.

By Air - Jolly Grant Airport is situated at a distance of about 22 km to the east of Dehradun with regular daily flights available from Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and many other cities. 

By Road - Dehradun is well connected to all major cities of India via NH 72. You can easily take deluxe, normal buses and taxis from any city in India. Dehradun is at a distance of about 250 km from Delhi, and it may take 5-6 hours to reach here.

By Train - Dehradun railway station is well connected to all major cities of the country like Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Kolkata, Varanasi by rail. From outside the railway station, you can easily hire an auto rickshaw or a private taxi to reach your destination.

Fly Dehradun - Kharsali/arrive Yumontri
Kharsali

Early morning transfer to Sehastradhara heliport to board flight for Kharsali.The time taken is approximately 30min. Arrive Kharsali and proceed to your hotel for checkin. Breakfast will be served here. After breakfast proceed to Yumnotri for darshan by palki / pony. The temple is situated at a distance of 6 km from Kharsali. After darshan return to Kharsali. Lunch at kharsali and rest of the day at leisure to explore surroundings.

Fly Kharsali - Harsil - Gangotri - Harsil
Harsil

Early morning leave Kharsali for Harsil. The time taken is about 30 min. Arrive Harsil and transfer to Himalayan nature resort for checkin and breakfast. After breakfast proceed to Gangotri by car located at a distance of 25 km from Harsil. The time taken is approximately one hour. After darshan and pooja return to Harsil. Lunch at Harsil and the rest of the day at leisure.

Harsil - Guptkashi - Kedarnath - Guptkashi
Guptkashi

After early breakfast leave Harsil for Guptkashi By helicopter. Time taken is 35 min. Here as per Govt. regulation you will be required to change helicopter for your onward trip to Kedarnath. Special priority darshan slips issued by the mandir samiti will be provided. After darshan return to Guptkashi and checkin to hotel Himalayan Comfort or similar. Lunch at hotel and rest of the day at leisure.

Guptkashi - Badrinath
Badrinath

After breakfast, leave Guptkashi for Badrinath. The time taken is approximately 30 minutes. On arrival at Badrinath, check in to Hotel. After check in proceed to temple for darshan and pooja. After darshan return to hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to explore surroundings.

Badrinath - Dehradun

This is the last day of your yatra. If you wish you can visit the temple early in the morning to take part in the maha abhishek ceremony. This starts around 4 a.m. and finishes around 7 a.m. (In case you wish to take part in the maha abhishek ceremony you are required to inform us well in advance so that the booking can be done for you , as there are limited seats for this ceremony.) After breakfast , transfer to helipad to board your flight for Dehradun.

Arrive Dehradun and transfer to hotel / airport for onward destination.

  • Notice less than 60-46 days:  25% cost will be deducted
  • Notice less than 45-31 days:  50% cost will be deducted
  • Notice less than  30 days:    No Refund

The organisor along with our leaders/guides and anyone else working in association with us cannot be held responsible for any death, accident or mishap that may occur in connection with any part of, or services connected with the holiday.

Before the guests come on a holiday, they must be covered by insurance, which has to include the cost of helicopter rescue, evacuation and cost of repatriation if they become too ill to continue.
